Whittier International Health Student Endowment Fund
The Whittier International Health Student Endowment Fund is intended to promote Michigan State University students’ outlook toward international health, to enrich their experience in the field through exposure to international health settings, and to enhance their education and career potential as health professionals in the United States. In particular, these awards are intended to encourage and support students and give them the initiative to seek international opportunities to further their progress. The award amount for students is up to $500.

- Michigan State University Graduate Student (Masters or Ph.D. level).
- College of Osteopathic Medicine student.
- College of Human Medicine student.
- Must have character and other personal attributes that contribute to a high probability of success in an international setting.
Funding available for:
- International health research (graduate level).
- Approved international electives (4-6 week duration) for fourth year medical students.
- Financial need may be considered.
- Preferred use of the award is for travel funds (for international students, research in one’s own country does not qualify).
- Other purposes will have to be approved by IGH.
- The funds are not to be used as support to attend conferences or for short-term experiences (less than four weeks).
- Successful applicants will be notified by the end of fall semester and the funds will be expended by the end of the following summer semester.
- A short proposal. Must include details about the nature of the international experience, where it will be, when, and how long you plan to be there. In the case of medical clerkships, the program must be COM or CHM approved for credit clerkships (at least 4-6 weeks in duration). Applicants will need to state both the name of the person and the department that has approved their clerkship.
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty, including one from the student’s advisor, specifically endorsing and describing the proposed use of funds.
- A one page C.V.
All application materials must be turned in to the main office of the Institute of International Health (B-320 West Fee Hall) at least 90 days prior to when you plan to travel.
Applications are reviewed and awards are selected by the IGH Advisory Council. Award funds will be paid through the Student Receivables system.
Gliozzo Scholarship Endowment in Global Health
Dr. and Mrs. Gliozzo established the Dr. Charles A. and Marjorie A. Gliozzo Scholarship Endowment to support IGH with its mission and to provide scholarships for global health education, research, and outreach for undergraduate and graduate students from all colleges and disciplines at Michigan State University.
The Dr. Charles A. and Marjorie A.Gliozzo Scholarship Endowment supports students who adhere to the eligibility requirements for study, research, or outreach in Africa, Latin America, Central America, and Asia. In these areas, the donors are concerned about health issues such as malnutrition, infectious disease, malaria, HIV, poverty, and polluted water that are symptoms of larger social, political, and environmental problems.

- Awards will be granted throughout the year.
- Financial need is not a factor in awarding this scholarship.
- Undergraduate students from all majors and colleges at Michigan State University are eligible to apply for this scholarship (a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average is needed).
- Graduate students from all majors and colleges at Michigan State University are eligible to apply for this scholarship (a minimum of a 3.2 cumulative grade point average is needed).
- Applicants should express their desire to conduct study, research, or outreach related to global health in Africa, Latin America, Central America, or Asia in a brief (3-5 page) written proposal, to be evaluated by IGH.
- The IGH administrator may choose to invite representation from other colleges to encourage broad participation and a broad applicant pool for this scholarship.

Schoenl Family Undergraduate Grants
The purpose of the Schoenl Family Undergraduate Grants for Dire Needs Overseas is to identify and fund the most outstanding project, proposed by a member of the MSU Honors College, which will serve dire human needs.
Examples of dire needs include, but not limited to: clean water, food, shelter, and medical care. The grants must be used within a 12-month period to make an impact that will help alleviate dire human needs.

The amount awarded depends on available funds and project scope. Typical grant funding is $1,200 for a Level II award and $1,800 for a Level II award. International travel is not a requirement of the grants.

Cunningham Scholarship Endowment in Global Health
Dr. and Mrs. Cunningham established the Dr. William C. and Norine Cunningham Scholarship Endowment to support IGH with its mission and to provide scholarships for global health education, research, and outreach for undergraduate and graduate students from all colleges and disciplines at Michigan State University.
This Scholarship Endowment supports students who adhere to the eligibility requirements for study, research, or outreach in under served areas around the world. In these areas, the donors are concerned about health issues related to refugees, displaced persons, climate change, disaster response, emergency medicine, water and food availability, among others.
