Project Management Team (PMT)

The project management team consists of three members including Dr. Ramjee Ghimire from CANR, Qing Xia from the Institute for Global Health, and Furqan Irfan from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University manages the project. Three Country Coordinators, one each from Laos PDR, Thailand, and Vietnam, work closely with and support the Project Management Team. Country Coordinators coordinate with country stakeholders and monitor the MOHIP activities. The International Advisory Board comprises senior faculty and leaders from MSU colleges and the Mekong region, one each from three countries. The board advises the PMT to implement the MOHIP successfully.

Ramjee P. Ghimire, PhD

Dr. Ramjee Ghimire serves as the Specialist for Global Outreach and Network in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and an adjunct faculty in Institute of Global Health at Michigan State University. He earned his PhD from Michigan State University with a focus on international agricultural development and agricultural extension. He has been involved in multidisciplinary research, training and outreach focusing on food safety, animal health, community empowerment, and sustainable agricultural development in Asia, Africa, and the U.S. Dr. Ghimire serves as the program director for the MSU WorldTAP international short courses on “Food Safety” and “Zoonotic Diseases.” He brings over 20 years of experience in agricultural extension and advisory services, including but not limited to animal health and livestock production. Dr. Ghimire has been actively volunteering both within and outside MSU. He served as the General Secretary from 2020-2022 and is currently serving as the Vice President for the Association of Nepalese Agricultural Professionals of Americas (NAPA) (https://www.napaamericas.org). At NAPA, he served as the Editor-in-Chief for the Policy and Research Brief Editorial Committee and Chair for the Membership Drive Committee. He has authored and edited book chapters, journal articles, policy briefs, bulletins, and posters on animal health, livestock production, agricultural extension, and education. Dr. Ghimire has been serving as the reviewer for over half a dozen journals and he is widely published. He serves as the Program Director and Principal Investigator of the Mekong One Health Innovation Program (MOHIP).

Furqan B. Irfan, MD, PhD, MBA Candidate

Dr. Furqan B. Irfan is an Assistant Professor and Director of Research Development at the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Michigan State University. He has broad ranging experience in research and academic health system development, epidemiology, population and global health, big data analysis, translational public health, health services research, healthcare business and policy. His Research overlaps epidemiology, population and global health, machine learning, and chronic disease. He is the Course Director of Evidence Based Medicine for three hundred medical students each year. He serves in the Advisory Board Member of Health Practice, Silicon Valley Innovation Center, and Infineon Technologies AG in Germany.

Qing Xia, PhD

Associate Director for Global Health Education and Research

Dr. Qing Xia serves as the Associate Director for Global Health Education and Research at the Institute for Global Health (IGH) and Assistant Professor (adjunct) of Family and Community Medicine at the College of Osteopathic Medicine. She specializes in interdisciplinary team building in global health research and professional development.  Before joining IGH, Qing held leadership roles at the Office of China Programs and the Visiting International Professional Program at the International Studies and Programs. She managed various programs and projects in capacity building, international professional development, faculty development, and many international student training programs. Qing obtained B.A. and M.A. in China and M.A. and Ph.D.  at Michigan State University. Her research interests include adult learning, nursing students’ professional identity development, compassion and empathy in medical education, health education, mental health, One Health, community engagement, and higher education internationalization.

Michael Miller

Mr. Miller is the senior administrative assistant to the Director of the Institute for Global Health (IGH) & IGH coordinator of global health research programming at Michigan State University (MSU), where he has worked since 2013. From 1989-2012 he held various positions at MSU in directing and supporting programs within the Office of the Dean of International Studies and Programs (ISP); the office he directed in this period directly brought in more than $25 million to conduct a diversity of international programs involving people from more than 50 countries on 5 continents, as well as brought in more than $1 million in endowments worth more than $2.5 million in 2012. From 1991-1995, he was also assistant to the dean, working with strategic planning, as well as researching and writing on various program plans and designs as well as policy positions in support of the ISP Dean’s Office initiatives.
